CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT & BASELINE SCREENING

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT & BASELINE SCREENING

The Mt Lofty District Football Club is pleased to announce our association with Your Brain Health for season 2024.

Your Brain Health is a network of clinicians dedicated to improving brain health through advanced education, clinical support and baseline screening. They are currently working globally to assist sporting clubs, schools and other at-risk populations.

Their current clients include teams competing in the AFL, SANFL, NRL, English Premier League Football, Professional Rugby, Formula 1, International Cycling, combat sports and horse racing. As well as many amateur sporting clubs and schools.

Concussion management is a major focus for the Mt Lofty District Football Club, therefore we wanted to offer another layer of support for players to make informed decisions in relation to concussion.

YBH will be offering brain health baseline screenings, which is a reference point for future concussions or head knocks. The objective data obtained in these screens provides very important information for medical professionals post-concussion to inform their decision-making about rehabilitation and return to play. This decreases the long-term risk associated with concussion if we can ensure players are fully recovered before being exposed to the risk of playing again.

Your Brain Health will be attending Heathfield Oval to conduct the tests 4:30-7:30 on Thursday 11th and Tuesday 16th of April 2024.

What is included in the baseline screen?

  • Objective measures Eye movements – Vestibular Ocular Motor testing with NeuroFlex®.
  • Cognition & Processing Speed – Finger-press Reaction Time tests, and visual Cognitive Tests with NeuroFlex®.
  • Brain Health History pre-screen survey – includes.
    • Relevant medical history including migraine, learning disorders, mental health, and previous concussions
    • Symptoms,
    • Sleep.

Why Baseline screen?

  • The objective data allows clinicians to target early rehabilitation post-concussion which leads to quicker and better recover.
  • Having objective data on various domains of brain health allows us to track recovery with greater sensitivity through the stages of a return to sport framework.
  • Better informed decisions about return to play and return to learn.
  • Slow or non-complete recovery from concussion not only affects people on the sports field but there is a strong correlation to poorly resolved concussion and academic performance.

Your Brain Health continues to work within the guidelines of sporting codes and the Australian Institute of Sport. We work with your team or personal doctor to assist them with better information to ultimately make better decisions.

The cost of the baseline screen is $65 and Your Brain Health will be returning 20% of all screens to the club in the form of sponsorship.

All information collected is deidentified and stored securely through AWS, meeting the highest data security standards.

Prior to attending these clinics please prepare the baseline consent form attached.
