Last touch rule explained

Last touch rule explained

In 2021, all teams (HFL and SANFL) are using the last touch rule.

The interpretation of the rule is as follows:

  • A free kick shall be awarded against a player who kicks or handballs the football and it goes over the boundary line without the football being touched by another player.

The rule is being introduced for the following reasons:

  • It provides clear and concise interpretations without the grey areas of “What is deliberate?”
  • It allows us to allocate 3 boundary umpires on large grounds as it requires less throwing in.
  • It aligns us with SFL, GSFL, RML, SANFL and most South Australian country leagues which makes events like Association and Country Carnivals more consistent in interpretation.
  • It allows for more flow in the game and less throw ins hence quicker more attractive football.
  • It helps us with recruiting new boundary umpires.

See this video for further explanation.

PLAYER SIGNING | HARRY WEEKS

PLAYER SIGNING | HARRY WEEKS

Mt Lofty FC is thrilled to have Harry Weeks return to his home club.

Harry Weeks began his footy in the Lofty under 8s and played through to the under 15s.

He then played 1st 18 footy for Pembroke School and was vice captain of the Sturt Under 16s before quickly progressing to the Sturt Under 18s and Reserves.

During this time Harry also played for South Australia Under 18s against Western Australia.

Harry has consistently been amongst the best players for Sturt Reserves in recent seasons and his return to Mt Lofty is a major boost for the club.

We are really looking forward to seeing Harry back in the red and white this week out at Lobethal.

Welcome home Harry, Give ’em Hell.
