Lucy Earl, daughter of Dennis Earl was a member of the Glenelg SANFLW team which defeated West Adelaide in last Saturday’s Grand Final to win their first Premiership.
Lucy, 23, 178 centimetres and playing in defence, has played 32 games and was named in Glenelg’s Best Players in their 5.10.40 – 2.5.17 victory. Lucy also gained the accolade of ranking equal 4th in Glenelg’s B&F count this year.
Encounter Bay was Lucy’s first club and later she played in a Premiership side with Christies Beach before joining Glenelg in 2020. While we would love to have seen her in the Red and White, it was terrific to see her competing against our Allani Dawes playing for Sturt on Adelaide Oval during the season.
We wish to congratulate Lucy and her family who have been amazing players, officials and supporters of Mt Lofty and Heritage Clubs, Aldgate and Heathfield Aldgate United. Brothers Dennis and Barry played in many Premierships for HAU and Mt Lofty, with Dennis going on to be President of the club. Grandfather Garry played for Aldgate and was an incredibly dedicated volunteer for HAU and Mt Lofty for decades while Grandmother, Bev also gave dedicated service over decades.
The Mount Lofty District Football Club was formed in 1978 through the amalgamation of neighbouring clubs, Heathfield Aldgate United and Stirling. Throughout many decades prior to that, there had been several clubs in the area which had ceased to exist or had amalgamated – Aldgate, Crafers, Heathfield and Upper Sturt.
It is against this background that The Lofty Legends Group was formed in 2014 to basically continue the history of the clubs’ and the people who have gone before and who had contributed to the development and success of the Mt Lofty District Football Club.
There is no doubt that the people involved over the years really enjoy visiting the club and catching up with old friends from the various eras and Premierships. This is one of our main aims as The Lofty Legends Group through communicating with these people and arranging an Annual Reunion on a home match day. While we have a great time, we also want to preserve the history and legendary tales of those bygone eras.
Another aim of the group is to provide assistance to the club in the form of maintenance and support activities at which members of the football club often assist and we welcome anybody to join us if they are able. Some of the people involved in this also provide assistance on the more major undertakings by the Mt Lofty District Community and Sports Club in things such as the oval drainage, construction of the entry gates and the much anticipated change room redevelopment which is imminent.
On the playing side of the club, the Lofty Legends Group, provides some support in the form of several awards. A special award is provided to every senior player on achieving 100 and 200 senior games while an LLG Team Award is provided to a player in each junior grade.
This Team Award is a recognition aimed at supporting the culture of the club within the “One Club – ALL IN” approach. It is presented to a boy or girl in each team who is very dedicated to the team and the club and is heavily committed to their own improvement and that of the team. They are also persistent and determined and treat everybody with respect, while respecting all aspects of the club.
We are keen to continue assisting the club and trust that you have a very enjoyable year with the club in 2021.
