UMPIRES | THE BACKBONE OF THE GAME
This week was umpires appreciation round. Such and important reminder that without them there would be no game!
MLDFC have always had great support network for our members to join the umpiring ranks.
Umpiring is also a fantastic opportunity to improve your fitness, football knowledge and earn a few extra bucks on the weekend being around something you love!
You can be involved from U8s up for learnings and U11s up for a paid role.
Mt Lofty and HFL encourage all to be involved!
We have some wonderful stories to come of some current Mt Lofty umpires.
Here is what just some of our umpiring Devs have to say about it.
“I love umpiring because it’s given me a whole new perspective on the game. It’s taught me confidence and quick decision making. I love the sense of community and how we work as a team. It’s fast paced and it puts me in the heart of the game. I absolutely love it.”
– Maddi Nuss
“Umpiring is a great way for building confidence and the understanding behind the game. It’s something to look forward to every week and is a great way for younger people to learn more about the game whilst also making some money.”
– Julia

– Keeta
“I started umpiring to help my brothers under 12s team, it was also a great way to create bonds with new people and gave me a new perspective on the way I played footy.”
– Farah
“Umpiring has given me an opportunity to understand the game that I love from a different perspective. It’s helped me work on my fitness and understanding of the rules. I love the camaraderie between the boundary, field umpires and goal umpires. It always feels like I’m working in a great team.”
– James Ryan
“I really love umpiring because it helps me with my game fitness and gives me a different appreciation for the game. I like how umpiring affects the game and how decision making is important. The on field umpires are always supportive and makes me feel like part of a team.”
– Thomas Ryan
“After several years volunteering as a club umpire in the SANFL juniors – this season I joined the HFL Umpires Association as a Goal Umpire. As well as learning new skills and making new friends, it’s a great to be part of the third team on the field each week and ensure the continued success of Hills football.”
