New rules for Moddies

New rules for Moddies

There have been some rule changes for our moddies (U8-U11). The HFL have embraced the AFL recommendations for modified footy (introduced in 2014) and highlights include:

  • U8 and U9 now have zoning: 3 equal zones to give more kids a go and to keep the game more open.
  • U8: no stealing, bumping, tackling, shepherding (to give players maximum opportunity to dispose of the football).
  • U9-U10: no bumping

This video shows modified tackling and it also describes the rationale behind introducing the more physical side of footy in a way that allows for the development of the foundation skills by new players to the game.

Full rules are on our website: Resources > Rules > HFL. So why not learn them before you say “F…” at the umpires from the sidelines! And instead of saying ‘F…’, think about saying ‘Fair enough’ to support our umpires.

Season launch day success

Season launch day success

Thanks to all those who joined us on Sunday 14 February for our 2021 Season Launch Day.

It was great to see many of our players, coaches, officials, families and sponsors out enjoying the sunshine and finding out what season 2021 has in store.

A special shoutout to our sponsor The BMD Group who cooked and served sausages for all to enjoy.

And thanks to the Sports Centre for bringing up Mt Lofty merch.

Enjoy some pics from the day below.
