Lofty Legends Medals 2017

The Lofty Legends Group presents medals on the annual reunion day in junior grades to a player in each team, selected by team coaches, as being deserving of recognition for their efforts. Kevin Hampton, past Heathfield Aldgate United player, introduced past players in each grade and the following players were recognised in last weekend’s round:

Mini Colts – Blake Cordes-Harvey – presented by Heathfield Aldgate United and Mt Lofty past player, John Coventry,

Junior Colts – Lachlan Reuter – presented by HAU past player, Haydn O’Shaughnessy

Senior Colts – Pierce Cordes-Harvey – presented by current MtLofty player, Ben Gordon and past player Allan “Blue” Symonds

The Under 18 Women played on the Friday night and the medal was awarded to Bailey Yap. Bailey was presented with the medal at the reunion function by Stirling Past Player, Peter Robinson.

We congratulate Bailey, Blake, Lachlan and Pierce on their efforts.

The Lofty Legends Group would like to sincerely thank all Past Players, Officials, Members, Sponsors and Supporters for making last Saturday’s reunion such a success.

Many people made big commitments to be here with travel from every State in Australia, together with country areas in South Australia. We would also like to thank the Club Committee and the many volunteers throughout the club who did so much to make sure that catering, refreshments and other arrangements were first class for the large crowd returning to the club, which we estimate to be around 170 to 200.

We would also like to make special mention of Jeff Pistola who, every year, does an amazing promotion of the event through The Courier and to Leith Dawes who does such a great job as MC in addition to providing stands of balloons in Mt Lofty and its heritage club’s colours.

The LLG Committee has met to review last Saturday’s function and plan next year’s which will probably again occur around mid May. Lastly, there is no doubt that the 4 wins, with the A’s bringing home the points, made for an outstanding day.

Our Mission

“Supporting a confident future built from a rich heritage and celebrating the Upper Sturt, Crafers, Aldgate, Stirling, Heathfield, Heathfield-Aldgate United, and Mt Lofty District Football Clubs.”

Statement of Intent

Legends, in contemporary terminology, are usually individual persons, but they are more than that. Legends are also events, milestones and experiences. An important part of history. Lofty Legends is made up of a group of people who make no claim to being legends themselves but who join together in friendship and common interest for three purposes.

We aim to identify, record and make known the deeds of the former Aldgate, Crafers, Heathfield, Heathfield-Aldgate United, Stirling and Upper Sturt football clubs and their collective successor, the present Mount Lofty District Football Club.

We encourage active acknowledgement of the commitment of the splendid people who directed and sustained the six original clubs across the years from 1901 to 1979. They are worthy of recognition as legendary and the many events and achievements of those six clubs, accompanied by today’s modern Mt Lofty club, stand tall among the district legends of the Adelaide Hills.

We endeavour to promote and maintain the welfare and success of Mount Lofty which now inherits the rich ancestry of the locally based clubs of former days. This will be done through past players, officials, members, sponsors and supporters of Mt Lofty and/or its heritage clubs, who become members of the Lofty Legends.

Administration

The Lofty Legends Group will arrange an annual re-union, free of charge, to all people who have had an association with the Mt Lofty District Football Club and/or its heritage clubs.

Activities supporting the aims of the Lofty Legends will be determined within the plans of the Mt Lofty District Football Club.

Small annual fee to be charged and receipted, banked and separately accounted for by the Mt Lofty District Football Club Treasurer.
